Six-Chart Sunday – Wild Things
6 Infographics + 1 Video (handling the truth)
Keeping it light for Labor Day weekend. Six “wows” in one minute… or your money back.
The Lawyer Party. Every Democrat nominated for President or Vice President for the past 40 years was a lawyer until Tim Walz. (21/22 D’s & 7/21 R’s)
British Invasions. Of 193 countries that are currently UN member states, the British invaded or fought conflicts in 171 (89%).
What Hath God Wrought. Per John Ellis’ always-great News Items, “Scientists have achieved a major breakthrough in brain-computer interfaces by decoding not only spoken words but also words people imagine saying. In a clinical trial with individuals affected by ALS, implants in the brain’s motor cortex captured electrical signals that AI translated into speech with up to 97.5% accuracy.”
Longevity by the Sea. “Living near the coast was associated with a longer life, but somewhat surprisingly, the same wasn't true of living in urban areas with inland blue spaces, such as lakes or rivers. People in those areas actually tended to live shorter lives.”
Big Rail > Big Tech. “Artificial intelligence is the wave of the future right now, but a hundred years ago the wave of the future was rail companies.” (FT)
We’re Frightening the Neighbors, But... Mexicans & Canadians are far more likely to see the U.S. as their country’s greatest threat as compared to China or Russia. But one wonders if they’d say the same thing if the U.S. navy wasn’t between them and those aggressive autocracies? Japan, Australia & South Korea overwhelmingly see China as their top threat, while European nations fear Russia most. Brought to mind the epic movie scene (video below)…

“Deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.”
